Monuments of Saints Cyril and Methodius, Ohrid
Categories: Monuments, Tourist Spots
The modern Monuments of Saints Cyril and Methodius stand in a small garden at the beginning of a walkway that stretches along the lake. Dedicated to the two 9th-century Greek brothers and Christian missionaries who brought literacy to the Slavic people, the monument depicts one sitting and the other standing, both leaning over an open book. The brothers developed the Glagolitic alphabet, the first used to write down the Old Church Slavonic language. Because of their major influence on pagan Slav migrants in Macedonia and elsewhere in the Balkans, they were nicknamed "Apostles to the Slavs." Put Monuments of Saints Cyril and Methodius into our Ohrid itinerary maker to see other points of interest to visit during your vacation in Ohrid.
