National Park Pelister, Bitola

4.7
#3 of 13 in Things to do in Bitola
Known for its two glacial lakes called Pelister's Eyes, National Park Pelister offers many opportunities for hiking, skiing, wildlife viewing and birdwatching. The alpine landscapes of pine forests, sparkling springs, and apple orchards shelter wildlife like bears, wolves, deer, wild boars, rabbits, and eagles. Take one of the historical hiking trails dating from World War I, and walk over reconstructed bridges and along trenches with cannon positions. On the edge of the park is an "eco" village that preserves traditional way of life and an intimate relationship with nature. Locals recommend hiking with a mountain guide if unfamiliar with the area. • 5 stars: Nature's masterpiece, unique "Molika" tree, clean air, pure water and more -- a beautiful place to be. 0 stars: Very low level of respect to Mother Nature, getting worse every day. The trees are cut, garbage is thrown everywhere, motor vehicles polute the air ... something must be done or we lose it !! 2 stars: combined.
  • Sssso beautiful. We had to pay 60 denars this time to get in - last two times we didn't have to. But maybe that's because it was the weekend of a national holiday (8 Sept)
  • My zen spot, I love it. Too bad city government and the state don't pay much attention to preserve this national beauty.
  • Beautiful nature and cool hiking paths
  • just perfect. fresh air, good picnic place

Where to stay in Bitola

The pedestrianized street of Shirok Sokak is perhaps the most popular area in Bitola, and most accommodations' claims of being "centrally located" are judged by their proximity to this thoroughfare. You'll find some pleasant guesthouses and hotels on the street itself, set in 19th-century townhouses and right in the heart of things. On the side streets that run off from Shirok Sokak, rental apartments and hostels cater to those on a stricter budget.
