Al-Zubara Fort, Madinat Ash Shamal

#8 of 18 in Sightseeing in Qatar
Historic Site Tourist Spot
Get a glimpse into military history at Al-Zubara Fort, part of a World Heritage Site that includes a Gulf merchant town. Within the town's ruins, the fort has stood since 1938 when Sheikh Abdullah bin Jassim Al Thani built it as a Coast Guard station. Now a museum, the space shows the architectural techniques of Qatar alongside artworks and archeological exhibits. Visit the still impenetrable fort and take shelter from the sun under the roof where soldiers would gather to patrol the coast. Take a peek into their lives by exploring the fort on your own. • I really love this place a lot of history inside i recommend you to go check it out
  • Some interesting information and small exhibitions inside. Overall it's a small place but worth a visit if you reside in Qatar. I wouldn't recommend if you are only visiting for 2-3 days is eve a week. Parking spaces available. Not recommend in the summer season.
  • Nice location. Not much to see. Wish they have access to the upper ramparts of the fort for a better view. Loved how they had turned each room into an information chamber covering various aspects of the area & the history of the fort.
  • A historic place. There is a museum inside the Fort. It is a nice place to visit in Qatar. The entrance is free.
  • Well worth the trip out there, especially now with the museum. I used to visit this place a few years ago just to get out of the city, but now with the museum there is also something to see here too apart from the fort.
