  • The Museum of modern art is a little outside of Doha, just redesigned the access, there's enough shadow parking for visitors a beautiful café and contemporary art, is a bus for the driver accessible. The entrance is decorated with Sheik and Sheikha, portrays an artist from Shanghai, who lives in France in huge paintings of Pei Ming. Two students of the arts explain the exhibitions, one in very good English. We were impressed by Al Azzawi, colorful, impressive, a life's work with many impressions of the Arab world, beautiful also the black female figures, in this desert of white houses, or the women in their towels were pale sand to find an impressive and well. Tempi passati, I hope. Doha is open-minded and well attended from across the Arab region. Worth a stopover!

  • Sadly, the permanent collection was closed on the day of our visit. Call ahead! They had two temporary exhibits, once which was outstanding. Nice gift shop, friendly staff.  more »
  • They have a sizeable permanent collection although when we were there the main gallery was being setup for an exhibition and there was only one section of the show "DIA AL-AZZAWI; A RETROSPECTIVE (fro...  more »

  • As prommised the shuttle leaving exactly on the hour, I got dropped off in the middle of nowhere, the area was still heavily under construction. Creating a knowledge area with companies as Texas Instruments and a branch of Georgetown University. However the museum was the opposite of the expectation it raised; yes, the museum was modern, and had two nice piece’s but that was it. On the first floor there were some paintings form 5 different artists but not really related to Islamic art in my opinion. In other words not worth driving to for an hour.
  • Need to have an appointment before going
  • The best museum in Doha. Wished all the constructions were gone so more people could visit it.
  • The Mathaf is a fantastic museum, with innovative exhibitions, excellent research and education programs and facilities, expert and welcoming staff, and a dynamic approach to the role of artists and art in our society. I highly recommend anyone visiting the region to go to the Mathaf and see it for yourself.
  • Far away, whole area under construction so you is more than likely to be lost. In museum itself as of September 2014 there are only 3 pieces of art and gift shop. Not worth until it is properly operating museum !!!!
