Parque de las Palomas, San Juan

Landmark
Bird lovers appreciate Parque de las Palomas, a picturesque park where a variety of pigeons are known to gather. The park attracts pigeons of all colors, shapes, and sizes, often in large groups. Unlike with some other parks, here you’re encouraged to feed the birds. You can buy some feed from one of the local vendors in the vicinity. While there, pay attention to the park’s trees--many are worth examining because of their twisted trunks and unusual shape. Put Parque de las Palomas at the forefront of your travel plans using our San Juan trip builder.

  • It was a hot day in San Juan, and the park was a nice, shady diversion from the tight streets within the old fort. I found the whole pigeon park area to be slightly gross but pretty interesting, but it is a separate area from the main park and easily avoided if too many pigeons in one small area isn't your cuppa. I thought I might get yelled at by the police for jumping up trying to grab a seed pod off a tree to inspect it, but I ended up watching a slightly overweight cop jumping for seeds when I came down empty handed. There are some lovely, cool shaded area, and a number of amazing trees; well worth a visit when wandering the old city.
  • Really fun for a few minutes, especially for little kids. Tons of pigeons. There was a nice man who gave us some corn to feed the birds, he did not ask us for any money, but we gave him a few bucks anyway. A fun little visit :)
  • Lots of pigeons, lovely park, it's small. Ppl outside door sell hard corn for a dollar so you can feed pigeons. Some look diseased and sickly. Pretty views of the ocean.
  • Cool short site to see while in San Juan. A bit disappointed that the history of the site was in all Spanish, so read up on it before you go. Some great dive bars on that street, pigeon feeding and the Govenors mansion all less than a minute around.
  • A great place with great views from the San Juan wall. The attraction here is the pigeons! There is usually a person selling bird food if you want to feed them, watch out if you do feed them, the pigeons will land all over you! Fun to walk around for a moment and see the pigeons scampering about.
