Parque de Bombas, Ponce

4.3
#3 of 6 in Museums in Ponce
Visit Parque de Bombas, a museum of firefighting and a landmark of the city. Built in 1882, the building served as the first fire station in Puerto Rico, whose firefighters battled some major blazes in the early years. After 108 years of service, it was turned into a museum; today, you can view many relics, items, and artifacts from the station's history. Admire the Moorish Revival style and vibrant red color of the distinctive building, designed for the 1882 Exhibition Trade Fair. • Incredibly colorful, it’s fun for the pictures you can take outside and with the painted lions exhibit inside. It does not take more then 10 Minutes to see. Get lunch near the park and then wear off t...  more »
  • To know the wonderful story of the heroes of Ponce, you must visit this place. And if you want to sleep in a place with history being the oldest Hotel in Puerto Rico don't think and lodged at the Melia. Just in front of the Park's fire. I am a fan of the history of the places and between the Park of pumps and the Melia you remontarás at times that you will have the desire to learn more about Puerto Rico.

  • I can say something is that this is a very unique fire station. Very unique architecture and tons of restaurants near it. Located in downtown Ponce.  more »

  • A wonderful historical area with lots of cool information on the second floor about the history of the First firehouse. Its a lovely park where you can feed pigeons and eat some exquisite ice cream across the street with various flavors like tropical treats or even red beans ice cream, lots of stores in the area to get your souvenirs to take home
  • We went on a Monday afternoon and it was closed. It is an open structure so you can still see the fire truck and get some pictures. If you get there, you definitely have to try the ice cream shop at the base of the Hotel Melia in front of the Parque de Bombas. It's all natural fruit ice cream. Coconut + Mango... amazing. It's the best ice cream I've ever had.
  • It is a free self guided tour. You get a pamphlet with some information and history after signing the guest book. You could do this in about 5 minutes. There is a lot of history but all on your own. Highly suggest doing this with a knowledgeable guide. It should make it more enjoyable and informative.
  • Very cool fire station with a lot of history. I saw a tour going on but not sure how to sign up for one. Would of been nice to go upstairs and see the displays up close. Make sure to grab a pamphlet and read up. The firefighters homes are painted the same way and are only a few blocks away.
  • I got a parking ticket while I was there no even 15 minutes never saw a not parking sign posted nor a yellow or blue marker on the pavement $250.00 for a parking ticket unbelievable. The government just want to get money a any cost. No fear for the tourists. I never go back there and will tell all my friends about it.

Where to stay in Ponce

Hotels in Ponce cluster close to Plaza Degetau, in the heart of the downtown area. Located right on the square itself, upscale hotels offer spa facilities, restaurants, and swanky cocktail bars. If you're looking for something a little more budget-friendly, check out the little side streets that feed off the main commercial drags in the this central district. Family-run guesthouses and budget inns are the most common places to stay in this range, offering little by way of extra facilities, but an ideal position close to the main tourist attractions.
