Parque de Bombas, Ponce
(4.2/5 based on 380+ reviews on the web)
Visit Parque de Bombas, a museum of firefighting and a landmark of the city. Built in 1882, the building served as the first fire station in Puerto Rico, whose firefighters battled some major blazes in the early years. After 108 years of service, it was turned into a museum; today, you can view many relics, items, and artifacts from the station's history. Admire the Moorish Revival style and vibrant red color of the distinctive building, designed for the 1882 Exhibition Trade Fair. • The guide was very friendly and gave us lots of info, tips for other stops, and maps to help us get around downtown Ponce. Learning about the Lions was interesting
  • They have a map with local attractions, their time of operation and cost. The story of the Firehouse and Calle 25 de Enero, is heart warming, and a quick visit to the street is a nice cap to the story
  • The parque de Bombas, is a FREE open air museum for everyone. It is in the center of Ponce behind the Cathedral. There is a lot of history to read up on, and some fascinating old fire equipment to see...  more »

  • It's a nice place . Very small. The only problem I have is the beggars. The homeless get a little nasty when we told them we don't carry cash , etc.. Constantly asking for money for food... I was told that Ponce got pretty good shelter that feed them daily breakfast and dinner , provide shower and clean clothes and not to give them the money. If they bother to let the police know that always walk nearby.
  • Is a historic firehouse station in the town of Ponce. You can visit and learn it's history. Very well kept. So go and visit.
  • Great historic park. Has the old fire station on one side and the cathedral on the other. Painted lions make the park! During the day you can find food trucks with pinchos.
  • The tourist help is excellent however the bathroom is only 1 tiny unisex room without a light. I was told to use my light on my phone to see. This is a government office that is a huge tourist destination. There are no restrooms anywhere open to the public. This is it. The stores refer me to this tiny unisex bathroom. This makes Ponce backwards and like a third world country. The stores routinely tell you they have no bathroom or that the bathroom is out of order. Its a real shame that newcomers to this beautiful city are treated like this. I'm staying at the Ponce Hilton which is nearby only about 5 miles away. There are lots of nice accommodations for visitors there so its a very unwelcome surprise. .
  • It's a nice little museum but it's small. Not a whole lot to see around anymore but it's nice.
