Wake up to not only smell the coffee beans, but also learn the history of how they were produced, at Hacienda Buena Vista. One of Puerto Rico’s best remaining examples of a 19th-century coffee plantation, the site was established in 1833 and stretches across 33.1 ha (81.8 ac) of fertile land, including a subtropical forest. Take a tour of the plantation, fully refurbished and in complete working order, to gain a harrowing insight into the lives of the slaves who worked here. Step inside the farm and grinding mill to witness the power of the Rio Canas and how it operates the still-working hydraulic turbine. If you don't feel like taking a tour, enjoy a self-guided wander through the property. Beautiful surroundings and a lot of information on how coffee is processed. Also about cacao and how cocoa is processed.

This was honestly a cool place to visit. Scheduling the tour online was confusing but I was able to call the booking number and talk to someone. It seems they only occasionally do the tours. The facility is well maintained and cared for. Most all employees spoke Spanish and English. You get to tour the old residence, the mill that is still operable using hydro-power, and a walking tour into the flora. A neat experience/tour that I am glad we participated in.
Website is in Spanish and very difficult to navigate, but miraculously I was able to complete our online reservations in advance. Arrived 30 minutes early. Guard made us wait outside the gate for almost an hour while a large aggressive dog barked at us the entire time. Tour guide was uninspired and did nothing to engage the group. I will admit that the mid-1800s mill machinery is impressive. The most disappointing part was that they didn’t let us sample the coffee. WHAT? Oh yeah but you can pay almost $12.00 for a tiny 4 ounce bag in their gift shop. Don’t waste your time with this place.
Very knowledgeable in both history and agriculture. Family friendly.
It's reservation only, so don't waste your time driving up here otherwise. Can't even go in just to walk around.
Nice demonstrations of restored 19th and early 20th century mill. Short trail hike through forest showing coffee, cocoa and other early agricultural commodities in their natural setting and tour of farm/mill buildings associated with production. There are 2 different sites that offer their own experiences. We chose the one closer to Ponce.
