Hacienda Buena Vista, Ponce

(4.6/5 based on 170+ reviews on the web)
Wake up to not only smell the coffee beans, but also learn the history of how they were produced, at Hacienda Buena Vista. One of Puerto Rico’s best remaining examples of a 19th-century coffee plantation, the site was established in 1833 and stretches across 33.1 ha (81.8 ac) of fertile land, including a subtropical forest. Take a tour of the plantation, fully refurbished and in complete working order, to gain a harrowing insight into the lives of the slaves who worked here. Step inside the farm and grinding mill to witness the power of the Rio Canas and how it operates the still-working hydraulic turbine. If you don't feel like taking a tour, enjoy a self-guided wander through the property. See Hacienda Buena Vista and all Ponce has to offer by arranging your trip with our Ponce holiday planner.

  • We tried to call and book space but had no contact. We came anyway on the English-language tour at the last minute. There are only a few parking spaces, so on a busy day, you risk being rejected in advance! It is a long walk to run in vain. The visit was very interesting both in terms of story and information on coffee cultivation. It was exciting to see the original engines in work and follow the water from the waterfall to machines. There is also very beautiful. Entre 10 $ pp a trip there can be recommended.

  • This a great and beautiful property, a plantation with lots of history about coffee and cocoa among lush nature. I visited last week to attend an anti-viral plants workshop and the place was more than appropiate. .
  • An excellent tour of an old coffee plantation and mill. See the beautiful waterfall and water system powering the mill, see the baby ducks and donkeys, and tour the quaint main house with many interesting antiques from the old days. Highly recommend.
  • Marvelous tour of an old coffee plantation! You can buy Puerto Rican coffee there, but unfortunately you can only sample the coffee made at the plantation. Our tour guide (bilingual) said they are working on changing that.
  • Loved it, the place was well maintained everyone spoke English and Spanish and the tour guide was great we felt that he loves his job keep up great job everyone..
  • Amazing place to connect your self with nature. The Hacienda crew have a English guy to understand all about the history.
