Gilligan's Island, Playa de Guanica

(4.2/5 based on 260+ reviews on the web)
Cross the water to Gilligan's Island and spend time on the island named after the popular TV show. Several mangrove forests surround the island, which nurtures an environment rich in marine life. You will find calm, shallow water with a sandy bottom here; do not forget your snorkeling gear. As a very popular location for locals, the beaches fill up quickly on weekends, so head there early. You will not find shops or restaurants on the island, so take everything you need for the day. Those interested in more secluded beaches can consider renting a kayak from the coast and paddling to the island in an effort to choose your own beach. • We made the trek all the way from San Juan and wasted a day only to find that the island is closed Monday. There's nothing I read that indicates this so we are disappointed. I wish there was a way to ...  more »
  • The regular ferry was canceled due to overhaul We asked at Copamarina and were allowed to buy tickets for their ferry, 10 $ pp ferry was big, nice and clean. Staff was friendly. Quite in contrast, what we have read on the regular ferry. I think we can come up with, if the ferry still must leave and there is space. We came on a day of much blown and therefore a lot of power, so it was not so good to go snorkeling in the island's mangrove channels. The water was quite clear and we still part fish there are plenty of good shade spots, but not so much space Came on a weekday and take chairs, it is better than blankets.

  • The island it self was beautiful and mesmerizing. Me and my girl rented a kayak and it was a wonderful experience. We didn't go to the ferry, instead we asked some neighbors and the rented us the kayak. Great and unforgettable day.

  • Nice snorkeling.. We stayed at Mary Lee's and easily kayaked out to the island in about 20 minutes. Clear water and very little current...

  • It really was a very nice place to spend the afternoon. The snorkeling would've been excellent however the place we tried to rent from ran out of gear. It was also very crowded, and this was on a Thursday. I can imagine it would be even worse on the weekend. However we did enjoy watching the multitudes of fish swimming near the mangroves Make sure to bring all essential provisions, ie water , food , towels etc. Once on the island , there are no refreshments available. They do have bathrooms albeit smelly ones. What we didn't like was the fact that the ferry only carries 6 people at a time
