The only zoo in Puerto Rico, Zoologico Dr. Juan A. Rivero was established in 1954 and now houses over 340 animals originating from many continents. Recently renovated to include an aviary, reptile, arthropod and butterfly house, the zoo's mammal residents include lions, giraffes and hippos. Reviews have been varied so check before visiting, in recent years the facilities have been improving. Take plenty of water and snacks, as there are no refreshment facilities.
