At Plaza Colon discover the city's heart while you marvel at the square's architecture. The square is made of paved marble, which is graced by 100-year-old bronze statues that are supported by oriental odalisques. In the middle of the square, you'll find a statute of explorer Christopher Columbus standing atop a pedestal in the middle of a fountain. We went to a Tour of the Plaza de Colón, beautiful with its statues and majestic City Hall Municipal La side and the other side the beautiful Cathedral of the Virgin of Candelaria. Beautiful old buildings in the Area. The cassava restaurant, terrific and accessible and close to the majestic Teatro Yaguez. And after a good play to enjoy the famous and delicious Chinese ice cream. If you want to eat Creole and Rico at affordable prices, the restaurant is 20th century and very close to the Ricomini with varied buffet and rich sandwich with bread or greater than its famous pan flute. We visited Casa Grande, spectacular House in the village and without leaving behind the newly restored Casa Pilar Defilló, whose name is the mother of Pablo Casals and where it was born. We went to Franco y Cía. to enjoy a rich breakfast and the now famous Gypsy arm of guava. We continue along the coastal promenade on the beach of Mayagüez, place opened in 2010 for the Central American Games; where there are; food for all tastes place for recreation, personal and family, where children, adolescents and young adults can exercise and play. We arrived at the child new Millennium Park where children can enjoy swings, frills and breathe pure air in front of the sea. From there we continue towards the estate of Los Abuelos, where delighted us with its exquisite coffee Los Abuelos and oriented us above all the process of the harvest of this grain as spectacular. We buy coffee to give away. And here we completed in the majestic Museum of Eugenio María de Hostos was born where Hostos. Here can be seen the statue around the Americas where he was very renowned for its great Social and politics, literary great, humble work and their fight because Puerto Rico was independent and had own voice and light to all the Nations. Not achieving your dream stays in Republic Dominicada where his remains are still. This move, according to request of Hostos, PR once achieved its independence. In order that there are many places to visit in Mayagüez, cradle of Hostos.

I went with my family during the holidays. The place was beautifully decorated and had music live. People walked by visiting the artisan kiosks with an incredible variety of products to suit all tastes.

The plaza is small, but looked clean and busy. It is in front of a beautiful cathedral. There is a good coffee shop in one of the plaza corners.  more »

Great place to just hang out, talk to people, listen to good music live, have a cup of coffee from Friend's, grab a bite or an ice cream just around the corner. On christmas they always have something going on, on the weekends. Mostly locals hang out here, but you will have a glance of what's the puerto rican culture.

I've been from the area my whole life and they always keep it clean and pretty, can't really help some vagabonds asking for money but it's a pretty calm area. The holidays have been getting better each years, this time bringing a carousel.
