Black Sand Beach, Isla de Vieques
(3.4/5 based on 240+ reviews on the web)
Examine the contrast of bright blue water against black sand at Black Sand Beach. This out-of-the-way spot takes a 10-minute trek through a rugged rainforest trail to reach the beach. Once on shore, look for streaks of black stretching among ordinary yellow sand. Eventually the black sand dominates the shoreline and sits in unique contrast to blue water and an orange beachfront covered in green plant life. Inland volcanic materials that wash down a stream during heavy rains form the unique color. • Gorgeous beach, rocky a little at the cliffs, so be careful. You would have to walk almost 10-15 mins thru the jungle to get to it, but it was worth it. Horses are in the jungle and at the beach.
  • A little difficult to find near the Gallery. Be prepared to walk, so wear some comfortable walking shoes because sand gets hot. The sand is very heavy if you are planning on bringing some back make su...  more »
  • The black sand was interesting, but the ocean is VERY rough here and the walk down (and back up) made it not worth while for us.
