Carlos Rosario Beach, Culebra

#4 of 8 in Beaches in Culebra
Beach · Hidden Gem · Nature / Park
Escape the crowds of other nearby beaches with a visit to Carlos Rosario Beach, a remote area with excellent opportunities for snorkeling. You'll immediately notice the colorful barrier reef that surrounds the shore seemingly on all sides; head south of the beach along the cliffs for truly spectacular snorkeling with biodiverse marine life. Do exercise caution, since water taxis and powerboats use the channel adjacent to the shore. If snorkeling isn't for you, take advantage of the secluded nature of this beach to tuck into a book with a refreshing drink. • It rained heavily in Culebra on the day before I visited this beach. Part of the 20 min hiking from the Flamenco beach parking area was muddy. The beach was also quite wavy. I felt quite guilty as I.....  more »
  • A lot of the reviewers' photos are actually of Playa Tamarindo Grande. Playa Carlos Rosario is to the north of Playa Tamarindo Grande, on the other side of a bluff; make sure to continue on the trail....  more »
  • I just learned that what I thought was Carlos Rosario (and loved) is actually Tamarindo Grande, and the true Carlos Rosario is even better! Walk all the way to the end of the path from the Flamenco...  more »
  • Beautiful beach (white sand not rocks), amazing snorkeling. You have to park at Flamenco, $2/person, $5/car. Approx 25 min hike from the parking lot. If snorkeling recommend life vest, gets tiring with the waves. You can rent all your gear at Culebra Divers right at the ferry stop and keep it for a few days to beach hop!
  • Definitely the spot to go for snorkeling. If you're willing to make the 15-20min "hike" to the beach (don't forget to bring plenty of water/food, no-one will sell you any there) you'll find a narrow strip of sand that gives you immediate access to beautiful corals, fish and more.
  • Hiked from Playa Flamenco. Took us about 25 minutes to get to the beach. Trail has a few steep spots but they are short. Recommend long pants as lots of sharp plants along the way. Beach was beautiful. Reef breathtaking. Worth the work!
  • Absolutely beautiful. We were able to explore without interrupting the reef. The snorkeling and diving was amazing. We saw the reef and fish 40 feet under. Taking a tour made the experience even greater. #East Island excursion~ you rock
  • The walk is long but it us worth it to be able to snorkel on this beautiful reef. I saw a huge variety of colorful fish and corals. If you snorkel you need to come here
