Nice area and beautiful view over the city from the restaurant terrace. The tour was okay. Would have rather expected a guided tour instead of an audio tour which would have been more personal for this family company. There was too much text in the audio and not connected to any room. You just hit play once and that’s it. Really hard to follow, so we gave up after 10 minutes. For the tasting we would have expected three port wines, a 10y Tawny was missing in opinion. The other two vintage ports were great. For 15€ it’s not worth it I’d say.
Really glad I chose to visit Taylor’s. It was much better than the other port house we visited (Caves Calem). The tour is self-guided with a handset that has an audio guide in multiple languages. You start in a room with lots of barrels (full of port!) before moving to a room where the process of making port is explained, including information on the different grapes etc. The audio guide is good, but the information boards are great so I ended up reading those instead. The tour continues with an explanation of barrel making, bottling and the various types of port. At the end of the tour you can taste port at the bar. I enjoyed tasting the two ports included with the ticket as well as buying a glass of vintage port to see how that compared. Highly recommended.
The tour is decent and gives a bit of background to Taylor’s as well as some interesting snippets regarding constructions of the vineyards and wine making process. But the highlight is the tasting garden which is a lovely spot and spent longer than I thought I would! And the rooster is very friendly!
Fantastic experience! We enjoyed the audio visual tour meaning we could go at our own pace and that a lot of the videos and information boards were in English. The port tastings that came with the entry tickets were interesting and the waiters very helpful in guiding us with extra port. Highly recommended
I joined the guided tour. This is a great experience. I learned a lot related to the history of port wine, the difference between port wine and normal wine, and the variety of port wine. Although the history of the family of the boss is too tedious, generally the whole guided tour is good. Everyone who joins the tour can get two cups of wine - only the cheapest. I also tried 20, 30, and 40 year Tawny. The 30 and 40 year versions are amazingly tasteful! I highly recommend everyone who comes here to try them! In the end, I bought a bottle of 40 year Tawny Port wine. It is expensive, but it's worth the price!
