Taylor, Vila Nova de Gaia

(4.3/5 based on 1,600+ reviews on the web)
At Taylor, hear about Port wine and its history, learn what makes a good Port, and taste some sought-after vintages. The company dates back to the 17th century and is considered to be one of the largest, oldest Port houses in the world. Visit to check out the company's specialties, vintage blends and wood-aged Ports. The Late Bottle Vintage-style liquor--the most popular premium Port in Canada and England--was pioneered by the company. Visit their cellars to taste Extra Dry White, Late Bottled Vintage, and Tawny 10-year-old Ports, or ask for a premium tasting. Fully private tours can also be reserved. • Nice day, really nice to meet the caves. Restaurant with beautiful view of the city. Ride of a lifetime.

  • It is possible to explore at your own pace with the headphones. The commentary is very thorough and there are many illustrative displays to help capture the imagination. The tasting at the end is grea...  more »
  • Discovery of the basement of Taylor's among many others, but this one is very interesting about the history of the vineyards, buyers, manufacturing etc..une tasting wines is included with your ticket. The only problem the price indicated on the guide du routard had not been handed over to days and upon our arrival it had doubled! We took an additional tasting but I find the toppings like cheese or 2 small chocolates remain expensive

  • Very well made and informative tour with audio guide. Lots of information, exhibits and audio visual presentation. But a bit like a museum visit. Personally, I prefer a tour guide giving the explanations. The tasting included is not very generous, the cheapest white and simplest red of the house. But if you are ready to pay extra, there is the possibility to taste some truly exceptional Port Wine. Like the 1966 Colheita single harvest (24€) or the "Scion very old port", but that comes at 120€... a glass! :-) The restaurant has a very nice view on the river and the bridge from the terrace.
  • This is my favorite port house and I enjoyed my visit. But it's really oriented on that brand, too much shameless advertising. The tour repeats much of the same information and is a bit boring. Had to skip some audio stuff at the end. There is not even a price reduction when you are there on the Porto :( really sad about that. But overall it was quite nice and great staff. For sure we recommend.
  • Started with wine tasting and ended with dinner. Great sea bass and even better chocolate texture dessert. Fantastic view of the north side of Porto.
  • I opt for the Taylor Vintage 2009. It costs 8 euros per glass. The wine is sweeter than most of the wines I've tasted and a little bit strong. I simply love it, and I definitely would recommend others to have a taste here.
  • While we didn't do the tour, we were recommended to try Taylor's 10 and 20 year ports by other tourists so we nipped in but we would have stayed longer as the bar area and the grounds are, well spectacular. I would do the tour here, much more to see than other yours and the ports just as tasty.
