Ferreira, Vila Nova de Gaia

(3.9/5 based on 650+ reviews on the web)
Sample and learn about one of Portugal's most famous traditional products at Ferreira, a wine-making estate specializing in port. Founded in 1751, the company boasts a long pedigree in the important regional industry. Take a cellar tour, which gives you background information on the growing and production processes. You'll see the storage facilities where the wine is aged. Afterward, you can taste of several different port varieties, depending on the specific tour, and maybe even get a glimpse of the site's 19th-century tasting room. Be sure to book online ahead of time, especially if you'd like to arrange a private group tour. To visit Ferreira on your trip to Vila Nova de Gaia, use our Vila Nova de Gaia travel itinerary maker.

  • The visit is fast but pleasant. The wines that you give to taste good. Explanation of the good guide, explains the different types of port wine. Most expensive store prices in the supermarket.

  • One of the advantages of this Winery is that you can buy entry in conjunction with Sandeman, so you can visit both wineries at one lower price than separate. Took the entry on day previous, and reserve square for the tour in Castilian. View guide was a girl charming, very nice and friendly, always with a smile. At the beginning, they give a generic explanation of the origin and characteristics of the port wine, and then follows the tour by the winery, where they explain characteristics of his winery and wine. Finally, a tasting of two wines, a white and a red, of course, next to the shop, where you can buy different wines (although come out cheaper) and promotional items from the cellar. The tour both wineries out 18 euros for person. Interesting to learn a little of the history of wine.

  • I went there today and the tour was ok. But I bought some wines and now I just saw in the supermarket the prices for the same wines are 35% cheaper than at Ferreira! I feel like a tourist trap and will never more buy any wine from them. If you go don't buy any wine! Just go for the tour.
