Ferreira, Vila Nova de Gaia

#2 of 6 in Museums in Vila Nova de Gaia
Sample and learn about one of Portugal's most famous traditional products at Ferreira, a wine-making estate specializing in port. Founded in 1751, the company boasts a long pedigree in the important regional industry. Take a cellar tour, which gives you background information on the growing and production processes. You'll see the storage facilities where the wine is aged. Afterward, you can taste of several different port varieties, depending on the specific tour, and maybe even get a glimpse of the site's 19th-century tasting room. Be sure to book online ahead of time, especially if you'd like to arrange a private group tour. • A nice visit to the cellars, where we met some of Fletcher-history of port wine, and even have a Mini Museum.

  • Really enjoyed our tasting while we were there! Not as busy as some of the other places so it was nice to sit down and relax.
  • Awful organization, make you wait in line just to find out about pricing options and the times tours are offered in different languages. Don't waste your time here and visit another winery instead (many to choose from).
  • Not my favourite winery to see. It was okay.
  • The trip was informative, quite short.
  • I went there today and the tour was ok. But I bought some wines and now I just saw in the supermarket the prices for the same wines are 35% cheaper than at Ferreira! I feel like a tourist trap and will never more buy any wine from them. If you go don't buy any wine! Just go for the tour.
