Convento da Ordem de Cristo, Tomar

(4.8/5 based on 1,700+ reviews on the web)
The Gothic- and Moorish-styled chambers, cloisters, and hallways of Convento da Ordem de Cristo reflect the era of the Templars, Knights of the Order of Christ, and lavishly dressed royals. Meticulously crafted over the course of centuries (since the year 1160), the convent was adorned with extensive wall art, decorative windows, extravagant tiles, colorful gardens, and complex ornaments from top to bottom. Walk through its tall rooms and seemingly endless labyrinths of hallways, and view the Romanesque church, filled with Gothic paintings, gargoyles, and religious sculptures. Outside, explore the gardens filled with trees, flowers, arched passages, fountains, and tombs. • At the end of my course, I performed a final project. In this final project, included visits by participants in the convent of Christ. In a first contact with this, I was given a positive response. Over time I've been accused of having used the logos of them without them knowing. This situation really freaked out that the convent has a lot of history with all certainty that I won't pay input to go visit a place where employees/managers (as you want to call them) are unsympathetic.

  • Beautiful castle of Knights Templar, especially the Charola. Lean-to monastery with many monastery gardens impressively large. You can drive, but we strolled the old road with vowels from the market square and parking garage. Beautiful history about 6 centuries; If you're in the area, you must not miss it! Entrance 6 euro. Audio guide was not available.
