  • The Church is located on top of a hill, right on the slope of the castle of Tomar. The chapel if you have a beautiful view, but the surroundings and the sidewalk are all deserted and plundered. The chapel closed and is well deteriorated on the outside. A shame find this situation.

  • The chapel of Nossa Senhora da Conceição is a middle way, between the beautiful city of Tomar and the great convent of Christ or Convent and Castle of the Knights Templar. Maybe that's why and the simplicity of the chapel building is rarely referred to in guidebooks, in newspapers or in travelogues. The truth is that this is an exceptional work of art, of pure Renaissance ", as they say the books. Was ordered build by King John III who wished to be buried there, in that small pantheon. As I understand you! The place is interesting and Nice, overlooking the city of Tomar and the Nabão River. The building, in its purity of lines, on its total simplicity in its balance of classical forms, is rare in Portugal and in Europe. Both the exterior as the interior, currently decorated, without colors or other adornments, reveal a degree of simplicity admirable! Can be an example of that is the perfection! It is a shame that is not open to the public. There are no accessible documentation on the site. That there is no permanent guard or a reception with fixed schedule! It is necessary to climb to the convent and ask for a guide and a key, which is not always there, which could take hours or days. This Chapel is another example of the misery and poverty that have taken over the sites and buildings of culture in Portugal. There is money and people for everything that makes a racket, is festival, have music and give opportunity to eat and drink and brewery and telephone advertising. But there's nothing to maintain, protect and ensure the access to culture.
