Tavira Island, Tavira

(4.5/5 based on 1,400+ reviews on the web)
Vast stretches of white and golden sands, classical South Iberian and Moorish houses, and a wide range of traditional taverns make Tavira Island an idyllic way to experience the many colors of Portugal. Accessible by ferry or water taxi, the 11 km (6.8 mi) long island shelters exotic flora and curious birds, including the seasonal flamingo. You can walk for hours through its dunes and marshes. Stake out a place at one of the campsites, go swimming and soak in some sun, or have a stroll through the island's charming narrow streets. You can stop for a bite at a traditional restaurant. • We took the boat out, it was cheap. The ferry was a couple, three km from Tavira. Beautiful scenery and a very fine day, despite the fact that the course was not really bad friendly at the end of February. A packed lunch can be a good idea if we will during the off-season, opening was an expensive restaurant and a bar that only served drinks.

  • Tavira is nice little crossed by boat also but the island is to be avoided in winter, it's sad with closed huts.

  • Those staying at Hotel Vila Gale Albacoa has a free boat transfer to the island. Otherwise, there is a small ferry (with waiting times).
