See a historical piece of technology in action at Camera Obscura, housed in an old water tower. Visit this tallest building in town, and make your way to the top for views of the surrounding city and countryside. While the technology dates back to the 15th century, the circular projection screen appears much like a live video. You'll receive an overview from a member of staff about the history of the city, its culture, and the landmarks you'll see on the screen. Use our Tavira trip itinerary planning website to add Camera Obscura and other attractions to your Tavira vacation plans.

Camera Obscura reviews
An unusual but intriguing attraction. This is an old water tower which has been converted into a camera obscura. It’s a striking feature which can be seen on the top of the hill, alongside the bright.... more »
For us this was a completely different way of sightseeing! We really enjoyed the interesting experience with the humorious guide. He knows a lot about Tavira and it's history and speaks many... more »
Enjoyed the potted history of Tavira and the unusual view of the town through the lens. Presenter very knowledgable and entertaining but spoke very quickly and it was over in a flash! Well worth a... more »
Definitely felt like it was worth the €5 per adult for the tour! Our (English language) guide was great & knows the town so well, it’s a perfect way to get an idea of how you want to spend your time there! But also a bit about the history of the town. It’s not like a regular digital camera - because it’s using a lens & mirror the “resolution” is like nothing you’ve ever seen before! Would 100% definitely recommend as one of the first things you do in Tavira, maybe just after cooling down with an ice cream nearby!
A fun and interesting to way to see the beautiful town of Tavira. Especially fun for kids see the outside projected on the inside, its like magic! 5 euro to get in.
Lol closed in October although they don't put a sign up. Told by a local. I've been before and it's worth a visit.
Worth a visit for the novelty value alone, stunning real time views around the town. Informative and humourous talk given by the host makes for an interesting experience. WARNING! If you think your roof terrace/balcony is completely private it may just be worth paying a visit here first. 😂😂😂
The Camera Obscura is a lovely novelty treat to see on any holiday, A fantastic unique birds eye panoramic view of Tavera can be seen. There is plenty of room to stand or sit while you wait for the guide to start the tour in the shaded waiting area.
