  • Good looking large cathedral from the outside. Unfortunately we rocked up at 1.30 and like so many things in Portugal it was closed for lunch.
  • Stunning gothic construction. The apse is made up of three chapels. Entrance to the church is via a lateral porch. The Sun Gate it was completed towards the end of the 18th century. The inside demonstrates a range of various intermingled architectural styles. In the centre of the main altar, there is the stone tomb of king João II. The church was dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Conceição. The Sé was built out of the red sandstone native to Silves. Its tone and commonness ensure its role as a characteristic of the city.Enjoy and visit. ****
