  • Beautiful centuries-old imposing Cathedral with much history. Read the accompanying descriptions of the various chapels. O. a Fatima has here relatively shortly before her death still visited and is commemorated in one of the chapels. The entrance fee of € 1.--is much needed for restoration work.

  • Beautiful cathedral. Unfortunately not open on the day we visited, but view of the outside was picture-perfect. Bring your camera and sturdy shoes. The cobblestone streets are slippery and hilly.  more »
  • After our visit to Castle was first to the "Silves Cathedral" was seen from the Castle battlements. Then further down in the historic city of Silves.

  • Good looking large cathedral from the outside. Unfortunately we rocked up at 1.30 and like so many things in Portugal it was closed for lunch.
  • Stunning gothic construction. The apse is made up of three chapels. Entrance to the church is via a lateral porch. The Sun Gate it was completed towards the end of the 18th century. The inside demonstrates a range of various intermingled architectural styles. In the centre of the main altar, there is the stone tomb of king João II. The church was dedicated to Nossa Senhora da Conceição. The Sé was built out of the red sandstone native to Silves. Its tone and commonness ensure its role as a characteristic of the city.Enjoy and visit. ****
