  • Great way to learn about the full human history of Silves, from pre-history stone tools, Bronze and Iron age pottery and actual menir (engraved stones), through to Roman coins and pots. Most interesting is the 40-foot deep well with stairs all the way down to absolutely clear water. You really feel the history. There is also the skeleton of a Christian soldier that was killed during one of the sieges of the Moorish castle. It really brings it home to see the skeleton of this young man, face down, having been pierced from above with an arrow. Upstairs was a great display of Portuguese guitars which we also enjoyed. A compact museum, not overwhelming, that frames the entire human history of this area (which is literally since the dawn of mankind).
  • Very nice small archeological museum. It shows some very nice pottery. A must see, when you are near Silves.
  • very complete and clean.
