  • Built between 1490 and 1510, is the first building in Portugal where you can see details of the Manueline style. His outside appearance is very impressive, contrasting with the Plaza de Jesus, one of the most soulless spaces that we can imagine. The interior is very narrow and a considerable height, which conveys a feeling quite rare. The most prominent are the pointed arches, supported by pillars consisting of three interlocking columns, which remind us of the Solomonic columns. The side walls are decorated with tiles depicting scenes from the life of the Virgin Mary. In any case, the interior is very austere and almost devoid of decoration. The entrance to the Church is free, and can be visited from Tuesday to Saturday, from 10.00 to 13.00 and from 14.00 to 18.00. Closed Sundays, Mondays and public holidays.

  • The Igreja do antigo Mosteiro de Jesus is a fine Gothic building considered one of the first examples of Manueline style. Remarkable the portals, Windows and spiral columns made of local stone, the baptistery, the decorations in the tiles as local tradition. The main chapel has a beautiful. In short: I really liked it.
