Waterfall Nature / Park
Stop by the site of a spooky local legend at Pego do Inferno, part of a series of nearby waterfalls and pools. Some say a carriage once fell into the pool and was never recovered, thereby creating a portal to the underworld beneath the water. See the waterfall and its lake for yourself, and wander the rugged landscape around the cascade to view the variety of plants that characterize the Algarve's inland portion. Stop by the viewing platforms, or hop in the water for a quick dip. While you'll find parking near the site, you'll still have a short walk to the start of the wooden boardwalk and then down a series of stairs. Where to stay in Tavira

Tavira boasts a selection of affordable accommodations. Check yourself into a family-run bed and breakfast or small-time hotel as an affordable option with a quiet atmosphere among the city's array of whitewashed homes. Stay in a guesthouse or private apartment tucked into the residential neighborhoods along the banks of the Gilao River for a great view over the waterway and across to the other side's historical waterfront buildings. Alternatively, you can opt to pay a little more to stay in one of the more upscale hotels located in the residential neighborhoods north of the freeway; these require transportation into town but feature pools, restaurants, and plenty of amenities.

  • DIRECTIONS; One issue is that it isn't the easiest to find. After a fire a few years ago the attraction was closed by the council. As such the already existing paths can be over grown and not easily a...  more »

  • We were just there on the 25th July 2016 and this is whats left of the area. We didn't go through the bridge as we spoke with locals and because the small river which used to flow into the bottom id the waterfall is dry, so we were able to drive through dirt pathways and park very close and walk for 5mins. We were warned by locals of the state it was in before we went there as the waterfall has been dried because it hasn't rained enough and the area is too dry but we decided to go anyways as we wanted to see for ourselves. The area was burnt from the fire and unfortunately it is in a bad state. The water level is really low to what it used to be and the water that is there is not recommended for swimming. It seemed like an amazing place if it was looked after and funded by the local council, however they have seemed to have lost interest. If you like exploring then by all means go there, however the pictures i have uploaded is what you will find.
  • September 2016. Disappointment that's the word to describe. Don't wast your time.
  • Nice, but hardly to find and in times of sunshine there is not always water conning from the fall.
  • Its not so easy to find but the way there is beautiful and the area as well. Sadly there is no waterfall right now. Too dry. But awesome to relax a few hours and my dog was happy about the swim :) water doesn't look very clean. Fishes and frogs inside. But I love nature how it is and its still amazing here.
  • not as nice as expected. Burned down recently and now ruined
