Pego do Inferno, Santo Estevao

1.9
#5 of 7 in Parks in Tavira
Stop by the site of a spooky local legend at Pego do Inferno, part of a series of nearby waterfalls and pools. Some say a carriage once fell into the pool and was never recovered, thereby creating a portal to the underworld beneath the water. See the waterfall and its lake for yourself, and wander the rugged landscape around the cascade to view the variety of plants that characterize the Algarve's inland portion. Stop by the viewing platforms, or hop in the water for a quick dip. While you'll find parking near the site, you'll still have a short walk to the start of the wooden boardwalk and then down a series of stairs. Our Tavira online day trip planner makes visiting Pego do Inferno and other Tavira attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • It of true that it's a friendly place but better come in ready sneakers to the wet in tong because the Earth is red and dirty and in the water there are stones of painful to walk on see casi impossible to advance (which was my case). There are unfortunately too Spanish smoking and drinking as pigs who somewhat spoil the landscape and their electro music that doesn't have nothing to do with a beautiful place. The water is good and a little brown before the green. Too many people not to be quiet. And unfortunately people care nor the environment. We stayed 15 minutes at all broken because I'm not worth the stay just to make a small visit history to say we went. On the way back we took time to picking oranges.

  • The get out of hell is a waterfall situated in the parish of santo estevao asseca in tavira, beautiful location, with mystical legends and stories. Currently is in need of some works in access but remains undoubtedly a mandatory stop in tavira.

  • Hard to find, there's a long way if you follow the path all the way round which does look great taking you through the end of the waterfall, but there is also a shortcut that has been made (noticeable from the pushed over blockade). There's a rope swing there too which is great fun, and a way up to the waterfall to jump off. It's a natural resort which isn't kept by anyone so pick up your rubbish as it was stay there otherwise.
  • Persevere and you'll be rewarded with a shimmering waterfall and turquoise pool. Best when nobody else there of course
  • Quite lovely place to enjoy a change in scenery in Algarve! A waterfall, small lake and fun! The access there is a bit hidden and bumpy. Be careful! Majority were Spanish, portugueses and other nationalities. Water was clean and fresh... :) Some litter around... can & bottles mostly. :/
  • Extremely beautiful waterfall tucked away in the lower mountain range, it was fairly busy (1st of August), mainly locals with about 20% tourists. A tad tricky to find the way down to the fall with afew different routes down, some steep and bumpy ground, take extreme care walking down these. There was alot of rubbish scattered everywhere, otherwise I would have given 5 stars. Definitely worth a visit, even if just for a couple hours. Water was lush, fairly clean and great atmosphere for all ages.
  • Very nice And beautiful place, but need some work on it. Entrance is hidden, no signs. Rubbish everywhere. Abandoned place but worth to see it.

Where to stay in Tavira

Tavira boasts a selection of affordable accommodations. Check yourself into a family-run bed and breakfast or small-time hotel as an affordable option with a quiet atmosphere among the city's array of whitewashed homes. Stay in a guesthouse or private apartment tucked into the residential neighborhoods along the banks of the Gilao River for a great view over the waterway and across to the other side's historical waterfront buildings. Alternatively, you can opt to pay a little more to stay in one of the more upscale hotels located in the residential neighborhoods north of the freeway; these require transportation into town but feature pools, restaurants, and plenty of amenities.
