Praia do Beliche, Sagres
(4.9/5 based on 360+ reviews on the web)
Surrounded by imposing cliffs, Praia do Beliche is one of the region's most popular beaches for surfing, thanks to its consistent waves. Even if you don't want to surf, you can enjoy the beach by lounging in the sun or exploring the nearby fortress built in the 15th century. Though conditions around the beach are generally rough, the 40 m (131 ft) high cliffs protect it a great deal from wind. Keep in mind that the large waves mean the water is best suited to experienced surfers only. Note that the beach is accessible only via a steep set of stairs down the cliffs. Put Praia do Beliche and other Sagres attractions into our Sagres travel itinerary planner, and watch your holiday take shape.

  • We got there around 10:00 and there was no one. A feeling of peace and contemplation has taken hold. It's beautiful and sought after by surfers, deserves a visit even if it's just to sit and admire.

  • A beautiful beach, which is earned! Ample parking allows parking quietly, but then down the equivalent of the cliff onto the beach. A restaurant sits on the beach, one wonders how it is supplies (not tested) we spent a wonderful day on the beach. good surfing spot.

  • This beach is in a stunning location and the views are magnificent, but it's not that good for families. There's a steep climb down some stairs. Toilet block (stinking!) is all the way at the top. And...  more »

  • Really nice beach. As everyone says, steep steps down top the bottom. There's also a Surfing school that was train in there when we got there. Waves are beautiful, the cliffs are gorgeous and it's not as windy as some of the other neighboring spots.
  • We were recommended this amazing beach by a local. It was a really windy day, as most days in Sagres are, he told us this beach is protected from the wind. Taking his advice was the best decision we made !! One of the nicest beaches I have ever seen. Incredible sand quality, crystal clear water with a nice steady shore break, breathtaking cliffs and a surprisingly good restaurant for Portugese Chicken. A most for anyone in the Sagres area !
  • Wonderful view, not crowded. Feeling of being "at the end of the world" Don't miss the little restaurant below the cliff
  • Secluded, quiet, amazing beach, great little alcoves
  • Beautiful beach with lots of caves, providing some natural shade. Steep steps down to the beach but worth it!
