  • The Church of Saint Peter of Rates, also referred to as Romanesque church of Rates, is located in São Pedro de Rates, Póvoa de Varzim, Porto district, in Portugal. One of the most important medieval Romanesque monuments in the then-emerging Kingdom of Portugal, given the relevance of architectural and sculptural forms.

  • Magnificent monument to visit thank you as it is the first Romanesque church of Portugal built in the 11th century and re-founded by cluniacenses in the 13th century. Legend has it that Saint Peter of Rates was the first bishop of Braga and had grave in this church until the 16TH century.

  • Maybe it's one of the finest examples of Romanesque architecture in Portugal and outside of the traditional route of the Romanesque of the Sousa Valley. The surroundings of the Church is also nice. Just don't appreciate the excess moisture from the site, which gives you a careless air.
