Where to stay in Porto

Portugal's second city offers a healthy variety and quantity of accessible accommodations. The historical city center on the northern bank of the River Douro teems with hotel options, ranging from budget-friendly hostels and guesthouses, which often have shared rooms, to upscale, luxury hotels housed in larger buildings and packed with amenities. All of these options place you conveniently close to the town's main sights, including churches, historical squares, and more. On top of that, many hotels on the northern bank boast good views from their hilltop vantage points. If you want to save big on cost, it's worth considering a more low-key hostel or small hotel on the less-popular southern bank.

  • We drove over this bridge in order to cross to Vila Nova de Gaia. The bridge was built in 2003 on the Douro River for practical reasons and it is not as beautiful as the other bridges in Porto. The vi...  more »

  • Ponte do Infante (Ponte Infante Dom Henrique) Data de abertura ႕႕ ႕႕႕႕ 30 de março de 2003 371 meters long and 20 meters wide, with two lanes in each direction. A road bridge connecting Vila Nova de Gaia to Porto, on the Douro River, Engineer José Antonio Fernández Ordóñe. Designed by the engineers António Adão da Fonseca and Francisco Millanes Mato.
  • Modern highway bridge crossing the Douro. Recommend you do this: Run across the bridge to Gaia, then take the Luis I bridge back to Porto. Combines great bridge-top views with a nice hilly workout on the Gaia side. Or just go there for a stunning view of the Douro.
  • Less spectacular than Luis 1 Bridge but still worth to see.
  • Nice port and good views
  • One of the 6 bridges connecting Porto to the world.
