Parque da Cidade do Porto, Porto

(4.7/5 based on 900+ reviews on the web)
Portugal's largest urban park, Parque da Cidade do Porto combines large manicured sections with sprawling natural areas. The park, the country's only public green area linked to the ocean, attracts morning joggers and cyclists, weekend picnickers, and impassioned surfers. Spanning more than 80 hectares (200 acres), the park grounds include sparkling lakes, verdant tree groves, blossoming hedges, and natural rock formations. Designed by renowned architect Sidonio Pardal, this green zone serves as a giant lung, providing Portugal's second-largest city with a breath of fresh air. Wild ducks, swans, and geese make their home here, along with more than 70 tree species and 40 plant species. Take a walk along the wide pathways and try to identify some of them.
