Parque da Cidade do Porto, Porto

4.8
#3 of 10 in Parks in Porto
Portugal's largest urban park, Parque da Cidade do Porto combines large manicured sections with sprawling natural areas. The park, the country's only public green area linked to the ocean, attracts morning joggers and cyclists, weekend picnickers, and impassioned surfers. Spanning more than 80 hectares (200 acres), the park grounds include sparkling lakes, verdant tree groves, blossoming hedges, and natural rock formations. Designed by renowned architect Sidonio Pardal, this green zone serves as a giant lung, providing Portugal's second-largest city with a breath of fresh air. Wild ducks, swans, and geese make their home here, along with more than 70 tree species and 40 plant species. Take a walk along the wide pathways and try to identify some of them. Park with excellent conditions for walking or physical activity. Space very carefully and without a lot of influx of tourists which allows you to relax from the frenzy that is the Centre of Porto.

  • Beautiful park in the heart of the city (Porto) and near the sea. Many events are made here because the wonderful conditions, like the festival "Primavera Sound"
  • One of the best places to go while in Porto!
  • Absolutely wonderful place to be in the city and very close to Matosinhos Beach. Highly recommended
  • Good place to run and exercise with the locals as I walked past many runners! There's water fountains at intervals and a good place to walk your dog.
  • Great place for a walk alone or with the company of a friend or pet! Enjoy the nature!

Where to stay in Porto

Portugal's second city offers a healthy variety and quantity of accessible accommodations. The historical city center on the northern bank of the River Douro teems with hotel options, ranging from budget-friendly hostels and guesthouses, which often have shared rooms, to upscale, luxury hotels housed in larger buildings and packed with amenities. All of these options place you conveniently close to the town's main sights, including churches, historical squares, and more. On top of that, many hotels on the northern bank boast good views from their hilltop vantage points. If you want to save big on cost, it's worth considering a more low-key hostel or small hotel on the less-popular southern bank.
