It may seem small and provincial, but nevertheless worth a visit. A good collection of artistic and historical values. Wonderful patio. It has a cafeteria and a small gift shop.  more »

The Soares dos Reis Museum is a Museum in the former. Portuguese art collections are interesting but insufficiently implemented value and too often about specific information missing. And especially the paintings have the peculiarity of all being on the same level, so that crusts can co-exist with superb paintings of masters. On the other hand a real effort has been made to present the sculptures including those of the master of the House, Antonio Soares dos Reis, whose museum boasts the masterpiece, "The banned". As for the top floor, it is entire dedicated to the decorative arts: there still works side by side without any educational project. Too bad! That said, the visit to all art lovers interested in discovering works more often unknown to the french public. And then especially do not miss beautiful instead of temporary exhibitions which houses this summer the "Lisboa No. Renascimento" exhibition: a marvel...

  • Nice museum with an special exposition! We had also lunch there and it was very good
  • Good renovated museum. Likes the exhibits
  • I wasn't impressed with the ceramics but the painting and sculpture exhibitions were really inspiring. FREE ON THE FIRST SUNDAY OF EVERY MONTH!!!
  • Quite dissapointed of its collection. It has some good collection, but most of them are not really interesting comparing to Paris' or Londons'. It has a small garden, which takes just one minute to look around. I think this museum is not 'Must visit' even for museum fans.

Where to stay in Porto

Portugal's second city offers a healthy variety and quantity of accessible accommodations. The historical city center on the northern bank of the River Douro teems with hotel options, ranging from budget-friendly hostels and guesthouses, which often have shared rooms, to upscale, luxury hotels housed in larger buildings and packed with amenities. All of these options place you conveniently close to the town's main sights, including churches, historical squares, and more. On top of that, many hotels on the northern bank boast good views from their hilltop vantage points. If you want to save big on cost, it's worth considering a more low-key hostel or small hotel on the less-popular southern bank.
