  • Sounds like a single Church, but, if you look closely, you realize that they are two churches. Yes Yes, just two! In fact, if you notice, you realize that the complex has two entrances. Going through one, you enter the Igreja do Carmo; across the way, leads to the Igreja dos Carmelitas. One was frequented by Carmelite friars, the other by the Carmelite Sisters. Both churches are very nice inside, but the best feature is outside, on one side of the complex, where you can admire a wonderful Panel of azulejos, covering the entire exterior wall and that is the ceremony in which the Carmelite nuns take their vows. The entrance to the two churches is free and well worth a visit!

  • The Carmelite Church or Church of the Discalced Carmelites is located in the parish of Victoria, in the city of Porto. Begun in 1616 and was completed in 1628. Interior decoration would be ready only in 1650. The Church belonged to the extinct convent, today occupied by the National Republican Guard. It was classified as National Monument may 2013 3, in conjunction with the Carmo Church adjacent. The granitic monumental facade, has three entrances with perfect round arches, topped by an equal number of niches, with the images of St. Joseph, St. Teresa of Jesus and our Lady of Mount Carmel Center. The upper body contains three Windows, being the rectangular central and two lateral shaped rectangular Trapeze. Overcasting façade a triangular pediment surmounted by balustrades. It has a Bell Tower on the left, the monochrome color tiles coated blue, topped by a dome-shaped bulbs.
