Fundação De Serralves, Porto

(4/5 based on 1,600+ reviews on the web)
In a minimalist building, Fundação De Serralves hosts frequently changing contemporary art exhibits. This prominent European contemporary circuit, part of the most-visited museum in Portugal, aims to bring attention to art and the fragile environment. Built on 18 hectares (44 acres) dotted with modern sculptures, the complex includes a 14-gallery museum, farmland, a shop, a bookstore, and several cafes. Use an audio guide at the museum to learn about its frequently changing exhibits and activities--there is not a single permanent exhibit at the site. For travelers who use our international travel planner, Porto holidays become easier to arrange, with trips to the Fundação De Serralves and other attractions mapped out and timetabled.

  • A funky and very different "museum" of sorts, and well worth the stroll out of downtown Porto. There is something to pique everyone's interests - highlights for me were the lake and the Art Deco house...  more »
  • The museum is almost empty, save for the Parreno exhibition (inflated ballotins on the ceilings, weird black drawings and electrical plus!) Which is disappointing (understatement if the year). Not a c...  more »
  • The Serralves Foundation is a world, if its flagship building designed by Álvaro Siza as Museum of art contemporary are for my most magical garden and Park. The House commissioned by the count of Vizela French architect Charles Sicilis is absolutely magnificent as it is the garden designed by the landscape architect Jacques Gréber. In the middle of the forest surrounding the House and gardens are pieces of contemporary art by artists as flagship as Dan Graham, Richard Serra, Alberto Carneiro and Claes Oldenburg. A visit to not perdese in any trip to Porto.

  • One of the greatest location to visit in Porto, great gardens for a walk and a lot of seasonal activities and celebration like Autumn Party, Serralves em Festa.
  • How boring. Museum is nice but the garden is not very interesting and it is a difficult place to get to. If you live the red tour buses then it's easier to get to but still not with it.
  • The museum holds a nice exhibition but the gardens are what are totally worth. They are great. Free entrance on sunday mornings.
  • Fantastic place
  • Both museum and the park are absolutely worth it on sundays. There's free entrance on that day until 1pm!
