(4.6/5 based on 1,300+ reviews on the web)
A tropical paradise created by natural phenomena, Porto Moniz Natural Swimming Pools sit in the nonwestern section of Madeira near the small town of Porto Moniz. These volcanic pools, formed ages ago by lava flow meeting the waters of the Atlantic, attract swimmers from around the world with their natural layout and sweeping views of the ocean. The surrounding rocks reflect in the crystalline pools, creating an impression of an underwater world filled with craggy stone pillars. Try to time your visit for late afternoon or early evening, when the reflections of the setting sun blur the line between sky and water.
