  • This is one of the passages required for those visiting the island of Pico, we were thrilled by the visit to the caves but in the end we were even more thrilled with the experience. For about 1 hour we are led to know this geological formation, the guide that accompanied it was always very professional, showed clearly their knowledge leaving the group always savvy and always having in mind to speak in Portuguese and English in all the explanations. We must bear in mind that the visits are made with a restricted number of people per group and so are marked in advance in high season you may want to take into account that may have to wait or go back the next day. There are moments of true stillness that only in a place like this if you can enjoy, we recommend!

  • All the best, the guide was very nice and explained everything very well. An experiment to make, recommend!

  • Who would like to learn more about the history of the island and the volcano, should descend into the underground tunnel system, which has shaped hot lava more than 1000 years ago. Part of a guided tour, rises one equipped with helmet and flashlight down into the dark Lava tunnels and over uneven lava flows and rocks in the one or the other gas bubble. Except for the water that drips from the stalactites, nothing is in the dark to hear - very interesting but also kinda scary. Although only about 250 m of the lava tunnel system are available, incl. introduction film takes approx. 1.5 hours A really exciting experience, where footwear is essential.
