4.5/5 based on 420+ reviews on the web
Once a major site of medieval Portugal's whaling industry, Baleal Beach today is a popular beach and surfing destination. Technically an island, the area is connected to the mainland via a thin, raised strip of sand. Explore the beaches to lounge in the sun or go for a dip in the calmer waters. You'll find that surfers frequent the shoreline, as varying land and rock formations mean that the area also boasts more advanced waves. You can brush up on your surfing skills or learn new ones at one of the surf schools nearby. Don't miss seeing the ruins of a former fortress from the Napoleonic occupation of the country. Put Baleal Beach into our Peniche travel itinerary planner and find out what's close by, where to stay, and where to head next.

  • Very typical and unique place surrounding the ocean. Lagide surf break is great and protected when the swell is to big.
