  • Three years ago, we did a tour with bike of Portugal in the Algarve, this year we had booked the guided tour "The charming pousadas of the alentejo". Hotels, Pousadas are historical sites built around: we were in the medieval village of Marvão with the homonymous imposing Castle. Then at the monastery of Flor da Rosa in Crato - for us the architectural highlight: modern design meets history. Then a Palace in Estremoz and one in Villa Viçosa, the marble city. Finally again a monastery in Arraiolos, and one in Évora. José has led us back on the tour. He is not only a great bike guide, but also as an excellent guide and explains on the road a lot and told. We saw cork trees and Cork factories. Visit a marble quarry. Visited, two wineries - of course with wine tasting! Then looked at a highly interesting carriage museum. A carpet museum visits. Black pigs seen. The bike tracks were almost always on quiet side streets and with moderate climbs. The length of the lines between 40 and 70 km. Cristina picnics were the crowning glory of any tour as last time: every day there's something else! And so delicious desserts such as chocolate salami... In the evening we enjoyed the Alentejo cuisine together with José and Cristina: relatively little fish, but black pig. And lots of desserts from the monastery kitchen. Very good wines to drink. There was cod with vegetables from the oven in Évora and a gourmet menu in Estremoz in a former prison. The tour was completely different than the last and we got to know Portugal from a completely different, equally beautiful side. It was a wonderful week, thanks to Cristina and José for the excellent organization and very friendly support. We will be back!
