  • We stopped into Monsaraz on a rainy Tuesday in March, with just enough of the clouds parting to give us the views we sought. From its perch on a hill's summit, the castle offers a view east to Spain, ...  more »
  • This castle is pretty clean, beautiful and arranged. We were in January, being low season there was almost nothing open and very few people what for us was very good. Coming back!

  • Access is easy by car, unmissable attraction, the place very carefully and clean. Is to spend time walking through the narrow alleys, looking at the buildings, shops and places to eat and, of course, the walls provide a splendid view of Lake Alqueva. When we arrived with plenty of fog, the end. Did great purchases and drinks on the ramparts.

  • This is such a magical place! Up on top of the mountain, this medieval little town makes you feel like you re back in time! Really beautiful to walk around and go inside the small shops and talk to people. Up from the castle you get an amazing view over the land now covered in water. Worth to visit anytime of the year and DO stay for the sunset!!!
  • Like it very much. It's interesting to see its simple structure, how the stones are aligned. The view of the surroundings is amazing. I recommend a visit to this castle, not only for the historic reason but also, and mainly for the view.
  • Amazing views. We went late in the afternoon just before sunset. There were only two other couples there.
  • Such a beatiful place. Great views of the surroundings and lovely village
  • A beautiful and cute medieval village atop a steep hill. If you visit here be prepared for alot of steep streets and stairs. Parking was well accesible just as the village itself. The castle/bullfighting arena were great to explore but a little dangerous for small children, there were a lot of high drops and no fencing. We visited just after Christmas so it wasn't very busy and not all businesses were open, but there are a couple of nice looking restaurants and a few shops where people were practicing medieval crafts. The village was clean and well kept for the most part. The whole village is a great place to visit when you're in the area.
