  • This Cathedral designed by Gonzalo Torralva and Miguel Arruda in the 16th century was Cathedral until 1780 that moved the diocese to Bragança, becoming from that date a Co-Cathedral. It was built by D. João III. The altarpiece was made by Gregorio Fernández, (who left us at the Sculpture Museum of Valladolid, where he died, major projects) between the 16th and 17TH centuries. A peculiarity of this Cathedral is that it houses "the menino Jesus da Cartolinha" of which there are several legends and is preserved in an urn with a collection of clothing that will be wearing throughout the year. The name comes because it carries a top hat (cartolinha) Miranda Douro is illuminated in the evening and is an unforgettable memory in a high lit Church, as well as the remains of wall that surround it.
