Pico Ruivo do Paul da Serra, Madeira

4.7
#5 of 23 in Trails in Madeira
Pico Ruivo is the highest peak on the Madeira Islands. It can be reached only by foot, usually either from Pico do Arieiro (3rd highest) after a strenuous hike, or from Achada do Teixeira with a shorter, easier trail. There is an additional trail leading west to Encumeada. Just below the summit is a hut offering simple accommodation and drinks.Pico Ruivo is 1861m high and provides some of the most incredible views of the island from coast to coast, but unpredictable weather conditions can make it quite dangerous.

  • We are starting from the car park below the Summit and have thus made the shorter tour. The landscape is very impressive and it's great to stand on the Summit. With baby in the backpack no problem.

  • Here you can get either way from the peak of Arejru, either on Ashada du Tejshara. Before the rise to the top, you can take a break near the hotel-the hotel is closed, but the toilet is open for visitors. Upstairs-amazing views!

  • Best view ever. He better not be in Madeira. You climb the Pico Ruivo, the interim you come against a house where you can drink. Then you walk to the top. No super heavy trajectory for a little experienced hiker. On the top is the only. Try to go early, otherwise it can get very crowded.

  • nice hike and great views!
  • The ascent from the East is recommended with younger children. The direct ascent of the South side is quite steep, narrow and dornenbewehrt. In clear weather, very nice view, but surprisingly can become hot. Even if the trip is short, it is recommended to have enough water.

  • The higher the Paul da Serra. Access difficult but rewarding. Views of São Vicente Valley is superb. Ideal for watching a Sunrise above the clouds.

  • Nice walk with relatively short climb. Great view but with clear weather.
