4.9/5 based on 1,200+ reviews on the web
Green cliffs, red stone chasms, and sharp rocks protruding from the ocean foam make Ponta de Sao Lourenco a wonder that is virtually free from human influence. The area overlooks the north and south parts of the island, and on particularly clear days you can see Porto Santo in the distance. Follow a wooden boardwalk along the ridge over secluded beaches, ocean grottos, and volcanic cliffs. You'll cross valleys lined with palm trees and reach heights of 200 m (650 ft), where only the air separates you from the ocean surface. Bring plenty of water. • We drove with our car to the parking lot in Ponta, and wandered along the Eastern headland from there. The trail led over some very steep steps and passes, was however anywhere good to walk. Solid footwear, sunglasses, sunscreen and water are a must! Unfortunately, there is currently no functioning faucet at the cottage opposite the descriptions in all travel guides! That's why at least two liters per person to take, because the road is quite challenging for inexperienced hikers. We are exactly this group and made their way into some four hours including break at the hut and multiple, fascinating photo stops. An incomprehensible experience, because the landscape is absolutely spectacular! The trail is relatively very busy from noon, so the best possible early start!

  • Nice walk quite tiring because there constantly must be walked in full sun. Have a rather unique landscape, with a lot of wind on the north side, and almost no wind on the South side.

  • Beautiful path with stunning view. The hike is quite easy but you need to be careful not to lean out over the protection ropes.
