Puppets of different countries and times, little gems for who appreciate this kind of folk art. It is worth, we were surprised that it was so crowded.

It's really interesting, even for adults, the Museu da Marioneta, collecting masks, puppets and marionettes from around the world: there are plenty of Sicilian puppets and the whole epic of Pulcinella mask which was at the origin of various schools in many countries of the world, taking various names (all explained in the various panels) and different guise. Here in Portugal is Roberto. The Museum, founded in 1987 and located in the ancient convento das Bernardas (you can see the cloister, with implements of peasant life) is open to the public since November 2001 and can be reached by bus 60, tram 25 .727 and 706.713 and (farther and uphill) from Santos, the first train line to Cascais.

Is in the convent of Bernard that happens this beautiful presentation of Puppets from various parts of the world. It's a show, is the art of the dolls is the way in which they are exposed. Beautiful!

  • The museum is interesting, particularly if are taking children with you. You will be able to see puppets (historical and recent) from all over the world, but not really very big (the visit will take less than an hour). Maybe deserves a visit if you are nearby and want to make a child oriented activity.
  • Perfect place to visit especially for children
  • A little dark for a museum. Great for children. Free to visit on the first Sunday of the month.
  • We love this museum since we were kids, and we still love to come here
  • Wish it had more

Where to stay in Lisbon

Check into one of Lisbon's grand city center hotels to position yourself well to explore the central historical districts on foot. To avoid the potentially high prices of some of the Old Town's central upscale hotels, try staying in a hostel instead. While some hostels have an upper age limit for their guests, they're affordable and oftentimes offer access to attractions on par with or better than bigger hotels. In the upper town, opt for one of the family-run bed and breakfasts, which provide affordable rooms and, as the name would suggest, include a meal as well.
