  • It is in this square that took place important facts for the history of Portugal, which led to the proclamation of the Portuguese Republic on 5 October 1910. It was opened in 1882 and pays tribute to Sebastião José de Carvalho e Melo, who ruled the country between 1750 and 1777. He was a statesman who led the country to the era of the enlightenment. Your image is at the top of the column, with the hand Inn a lion (symbol of power), with the eyes facing downtown, downtown of Lisbon Pombal rebuilt after the earthquake of 1755. This image is in the column of the monument, which was opened in 1934. The monument to the Marquês de Pombal consists of a pedestal in carved stone, with 40 meters high, where rests the statue in bronze. This pedestal bears, at the top, four medallions where are the main contributors to the Marquis of Pombal. At the top, the statue of the Marquis of Pombal, full length, rests his arm on the back of a lion, symbolizing strength, determination and royalty. The sidewalk in back is decorated with the arms of Lisbon.

  • She's actually more roundabout than a square, but she gives home/end of Avenida da Liberdade. Around her, there's a beautiful tb Park

  • The square, actually a kneecap, is a landmark of the city, between Park Edward VII and the AV. da Liberdade. Where there are several hotels, nearby restaurants, several shops, tour bus (city tour), subway station, etc, etc. Little to see, but it's a starting point. Will go through it at some point, of course.
