Where to stay in Lisbon

Check into one of Lisbon's grand city center hotels to position yourself well to explore the central historical districts on foot. To avoid the potentially high prices of some of the Old Town's central upscale hotels, try staying in a hostel instead. While some hostels have an upper age limit for their guests, they're affordable and oftentimes offer access to attractions on par with or better than bigger hotels. In the upper town, opt for one of the family-run bed and breakfasts, which provide affordable rooms and, as the name would suggest, include a meal as well.

  • Just in front of the botanical garden (which is closed for restoration) is this wonderful square, full of charm and good vibrations. It is a very lovely area to explore with a lot of interesting shops...  more »
  • This is a very nice area to wander around and it feels safe in the day and evening. Lots of people congregating near the Quiosque das Oliveiras for a quick drink and snack - felt very Portuguese. Nice...  more »
  • Even for the Portuguese, Lisbon is today a trend city. Much has improved and much has been restored. Lisbon has a very natural light, common to the cities along a river and the sea. It is a beautiful ...  more »

  • Nice urban garden to rest, read a book or to do a picnic with friends. Its full of families and their kids during the weekends but remains its peaceful. There are two small cafes to grab a beer or chill out with friends. On weekends there are nice markets selling food, handmade crafts and portuguese products.
  • Beautiful garden with a nice bar and two kiosks to grab coffee or have a drink. The architecture that surrounds it is breathtaking and it is possible to find wonderful trees in this place. One of my favourites places to enjoy a sunny afternoon!
  • There is a beautiful, old juniper tree anchoring the park, whose branches are suspended by a metal lattice work. It is stunning. You can sit on the benches on the shade of the tree. There is also a small fountain. Perfect for a nature moment.
  • The old tree in the center is legendary. Lots of things happening there, at the weekends there's a flee market and an organic food market. Theresa's lap a small park for children and two quiosques - typical old coffee shops
  • Nice place with old trees and a playground. Unfortunately not too many possibilities to spread out a blanket.
