The museum displays over 1,000 pieces from its permanent collection and some 250 works from temporary exhibits, all spread across two floors. Browse through collections of pop art, surrealism, hyper-realism, minimalist art, and conceptual art, among other major movements. See famed works such as Picasso's Métamorphose, Warhol's Portrait of Judy Garland, and Bacon's Oedipus and the Sphinx After Ingres. Admission is free.   • When in Lissabon try to find the time to plan a visit. But beware: free admission was only valid for a period of 10 years. Now you have to pay a fee of € 5,-. Surely worth every penny.  more »
  • Yes it is not a free museum anymore.But if you love art 5€ you can pay. Clean WC next to the icket counter . Open from 10.am to 7 p.m.  more »

  • An amazing art complex full of some amazing work from across the world. Great to see big names alongside Portuguese artists with equal standing. Plus lots of bars, outside spaces and more to explore. Could easily spend a full day here.
  • If you love modern art it's great. Book a table in the outside area of the restaurant for lunch - good quality main and glass of wine for around €14.
  • A great albeit eclectic collection. Very interesting museum with great views. The architecture is stunning.
  • Nice architecture and quiet museum. Got a good solid collection of modern art, well displayed on three floors. Not too crowded and entrance is affordable.
  • Really enjoyed this. And it's free so totally worth it. Nice gardens on the roof and nice water features. Good way to spend an afternoon.

Where to stay in Lisbon

Check into one of Lisbon's grand city center hotels to position yourself well to explore the central historical districts on foot. To avoid the potentially high prices of some of the Old Town's central upscale hotels, try staying in a hostel instead. While some hostels have an upper age limit for their guests, they're affordable and oftentimes offer access to attractions on par with or better than bigger hotels. In the upper town, opt for one of the family-run bed and breakfasts, which provide affordable rooms and, as the name would suggest, include a meal as well.
