Where to stay in Lisbon

Check into one of Lisbon's grand city center hotels to position yourself well to explore the central historical districts on foot. To avoid the potentially high prices of some of the Old Town's central upscale hotels, try staying in a hostel instead. While some hostels have an upper age limit for their guests, they're affordable and oftentimes offer access to attractions on par with or better than bigger hotels. In the upper town, opt for one of the family-run bed and breakfasts, which provide affordable rooms and, as the name would suggest, include a meal as well.

  • We had a 24 hour transit pass and the elevador do lavra was ready to go, so we hopped on for the short ride up the steep hill. When you get off, go to the left and you will find a very nice secluded p...  more »
  • This is a spot for a different Lisbon view from a spot that most people that leaves here does not know. Beatifull spot, as all the area around.  more »
  • Felt like we were stumbling across a rather secret place- this certainly isn't one of the viewpoints that is really well-known to tourists. Not lots to 'do' there but just good to be able to chill out...  more »

  • The Jardim do Torel is a very calm viewsite during weekdays probably because it is mostly visited by locals. On the upper level of this park there are a few seats with a view, perfect for reading. On the lower level there is a cafe with a nice terrace and a little playground for the kids. On the same level you will find a beautiful graffiti of Fernando Pessoa. The Jardim do Torel is definitely a great place in Baixa for reading or simply to appreciate the view of the city.
  • Quiet and relaxed park, with a nive overview of town, comfy wooden benches and a small fountain/lake.
  • Peaceful park with views over the city. Bar set perfectly for sundowner.
  • Cascading garden at the top of the funicular, a bit sad, largely empty and a little unkempt, but strangely engaging to walk through on the way back down. There is a primary school embedded in the park.
  • One of the best gardens in Lisbon, great view and not many people go there. If you plan on walking there be ready for the legs workout, but it will be worth it. Note: there is a shortcut if you are going through R. Telhal, after the music store there is a gate with some stairs, if you go up you get to a school and you can keep going up until the garden :)
