With not too many visitors a church to quietly. Beautiful chapels on each side. Easily accessible by the elevador di Gloria.

7/19 (Wednesday) visiting. Decor is beautiful and solemn atmosphere. Felt, felt would have seen more beautiful church music that flowed from the church so far and do something different.

The Church, built in the 16th century, consists of single ship, in rectangular format. It's a nice visit, especially because when your side is located the Museu de São Roque, with Rico collection of sacred art (check timetables of visitation at the site of the Museum in general information). The interior of the Church is richly adorned, which is further noted in the eight side chapels, almost all decorated with gilded carvings and polychrome images. The ceiling is another highlight, painted according to the technique called trompe-l'oeil (which uses perspective tricks to create optical illusions). Located in Largo Trindade Coelho, in Bairro Alto, near other attractions (like the Miradouro de São Pedro) and restaurants, being easily accessible by Elevator, from Largo Restauradores and Avenida da Liberdade. Very well cared for, the facilities more than justify the visit, especially for those who like art, architecture and history, which can be considered one of the "must-see" attractions of Lisbon.

  • Very beautiful religious place. Peaceful and unique looking. Rich decorations on the chapel's inside.
  • It has a stunning view although most of the gold parts was stolen after the earthquake of the 1775. However you can still see the wonderful lights created by the gold and the art pieces made with tiles, so well done that it seems painted!
  • Beautiful, peaceful church with elaborate decorations, definitely worth a trip!
  • The interior is stunning from just about every angle.
  • Considering there's a lot this is one of the oldest churches in Portugal and a lot of the structure is made of gold it got three stars. However I didn't find it very impressive it's worth going to for the viewing point neighbor though especially at night it's really pretty

Where to stay in Lisbon

Check into one of Lisbon's grand city center hotels to position yourself well to explore the central historical districts on foot. To avoid the potentially high prices of some of the Old Town's central upscale hotels, try staying in a hostel instead. While some hostels have an upper age limit for their guests, they're affordable and oftentimes offer access to attractions on par with or better than bigger hotels. In the upper town, opt for one of the family-run bed and breakfasts, which provide affordable rooms and, as the name would suggest, include a meal as well.
