Estacao do Oriente, Lisbon

3.9
#100 of 604 in Things to do in Lisbon
Boasting an intricate glass roof design intended to replicate trees, Estacao do Oriente serves both as an architectural oddity and the city's busiest transportation hub. The brainchild of Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, the station acts as a nexus for rail, subway, and bus lines around the urban area. Catch transportation here to get around town or to other parts of the country. Wander the eight platforms and many interior areas featuring a host of shops and cafes, or make your way over to the attached shopping center. Admire the twisting support structures and intricate features of the building, culminating at the top in the series of geometric patterns and arches. • East station is the starting point to visit the Parque das Nações and the Vasco da Gama Shopping Center. Belongs to the metro red line, also leads to the airport quickly, easily and inexpensively. Does connection to the various lines of the Lisbon metro. Use the meter with the Viva Travel Card, worth for 2 days, useful for those who will stay a few days in the city.

  • Was using the station to go to Porto after arriving at Lisbon Airport. There is a subway from the airport and near the super convenient. Roof framework is very simple than the station itself did.

  • Despite being a train station your architecture makes it one of the most important and beautiful places of Lisbon.

Where to stay in Lisbon

Check into one of Lisbon's grand city center hotels to position yourself well to explore the central historical districts on foot. To avoid the potentially high prices of some of the Old Town's central upscale hotels, try staying in a hostel instead. While some hostels have an upper age limit for their guests, they're affordable and oftentimes offer access to attractions on par with or better than bigger hotels. In the upper town, opt for one of the family-run bed and breakfasts, which provide affordable rooms and, as the name would suggest, include a meal as well.
