Where to stay in Lisbon

Check into one of Lisbon's grand city center hotels to position yourself well to explore the central historical districts on foot. To avoid the potentially high prices of some of the Old Town's central upscale hotels, try staying in a hostel instead. While some hostels have an upper age limit for their guests, they're affordable and oftentimes offer access to attractions on par with or better than bigger hotels. In the upper town, opt for one of the family-run bed and breakfasts, which provide affordable rooms and, as the name would suggest, include a meal as well.

  • This is a good place to start the ride on the #28 old fashioned trolley ride through the Alfama and other old Lisbon neighborhoods. You have to catch it here to get a seat to enjoy the ride. Anywhere ...  more »
  • While some people may not consider this a typical tourist destination, we found it to be fascinating. We have never been to such an impressive cemetery. It is located right at the end of tram 28's run...  more »
  • At the end of tram 28 and steps from a lovely market building, the pleasures cemetery is well worth a visit. It was a gloriously clear day so we got excellent views of the 25th of April bridge.  more »

  • From the early 19th century, it is a token of Lisbon society. Well organized and with a nice view to Tejo river.
  • This reminds me of Pere LaChaise in Paris but it is much less crowded and therefore more serene. We wandered around for several hours just looking into the mauselems and admiring the views of the sea.
  • Very pretty cemetery with many famous Portuguese people. Walk all the way to the back for a nice view. On sunny days it can be a nice albeit sometimes creepy place to go for a walk.
  • Nice river view and with impressive mausoleums.
  • A really unique place in the centre of Lisbon, doesn't disappoint. Very quiet and interesting
