Arco Triunfal da Rua Augusta, Lisbon
(4.6/5 based on 3,400+ reviews on the web)
A commemorative arch dedicated to recovery from the 1775 earthquake, Arco Triunfal da Rua Augusta boasts 7 m (23 ft) statues at its top, representing glory, valor, and ingenuity. Originally a bell tower, this neoclassical structure took over a century to become what it is today. Standing over 30 m (100 ft), it welcomes you to the historical area of Lisbon. Look for statues of Vasco da Gama, Nuno Alvares Pereira, Viriato, and Marquis of Pombal at its lower level. Climb the arch's gazebo to get panoramic views of Rua Augusta. • divides the Commerce Square from Via Augusta anything special if not climbing on top of a splendid view of the vastness of the piazza and the Tagus. On the opposite side the footpath of the Augusta Street with shops and walking up to the upper bed

  • Monument impresses by its architectural and artistic grandeur. Stay in the Praça do Comércio, marking the beginning of the Augusta Street, which is closed to vehicle traffic and has Rico and varied trade with delicious cafes and restaurants. The view from the Bow of the Augusta in the Praça do Comércio is even more beautiful, as it has in the background is the Tagus River in whose waters mingling boats.
