Forget the aquarium at Oriente, just go for the charming old school version in Algés. The children we saw were very enthusiastic. Nothing modern about this place but it still has a certain appeal to i...  more »

Worth going there, especially if you love animals. This Aquarium will definitely like for children. It runs through in about an hour.

We thought this was the oceanarium - however, once we went inside, the photos were captioned with portugese and the small building looked old. The indoor "pools" were empty and there were not a variet...  more »

  • Loved this vintage and historic space! Great price, interesting sea life to see, and virtually unknown, which means it doesn't attract crowds. For littles, they have step stools with handles that parents can carry around for the kids to get up on to see into the aquariums and exhibits. There are also fish ponds outside and for 0,50 cents you can buy fish food and feed them ;-)
  • Its situated off the beaten track. No crowds. Recommend.
  • Beautiful small museum of marine natural history and a great collection of live species.
  • Very pretty and well preserved old aquarium. It's like a time travel: outside you have the last bit of neo classical/ecletic style from the 19th century. Inside, you feel like going back to some futurist 1950s. Plus, you can visit a very calm and nice neighborhood, with lovely cafes and a grate cycle lane.
  • It's a classic place. Well kept. And very cheap tikets. And Your visit helps the animals

Where to stay in Lisbon

Check into one of Lisbon's grand city center hotels to position yourself well to explore the central historical districts on foot. To avoid the potentially high prices of some of the Old Town's central upscale hotels, try staying in a hostel instead. While some hostels have an upper age limit for their guests, they're affordable and oftentimes offer access to attractions on par with or better than bigger hotels. In the upper town, opt for one of the family-run bed and breakfasts, which provide affordable rooms and, as the name would suggest, include a meal as well.
