Alfama, Lisbon

(4.6/5 based on 11,000+ reviews on the web)
Wander through the oldest district in town, Alfama, known for its high concentration of Fado bars and restaurants. Set between Sao Jorge Castle and Tejo river, it's a good choice of walking areas for tourists. During Moorish rule, this was the entire city. The picturesque side streets and squares survived the 1755 Lisbon earthquake and today are beautiful tourist attractions. Stroll down Rua do Barao, stop into quaint shops, and listen to Fado--a musical style native to the region--at a local bar. As you explore, you'll notice historic sites and several churches along the way, until you reach the walls of the 12th century Lisbon Cathedral. Use our Lisbon tour planner to arrange your visit to Alfama and other attractions in Lisbon.

  • Worth seeing. Beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. It is worth to approach on foot, narrow streets. Nogo, however, hurt because a lot of go uphill. It's worth surely.

  • Hello! That's our first voyage ended in Lisbon: No coração da Lisboa histórica. Lived in Alfama District-Street Rua São Tomé. Not looking for a long time. At the airport took a taxi for 12 euros, it is the best option for beginners. per week are accustomed to streets and transport and returned to the airport already on the tube. From the apartment to the subway on foot 15 minutes from a hill on the historic street. In the historic centre of Lisbon. Near House No. 28 tram stop. To drive it is not always a pleasure due to local pickpockets: be careful. Location good, good. We lived in the best area! There are two streets in thousands of years. What a chic look right at home Miradouro Portas do Sol-the most beautiful sightseeing ground in town! House at the foot of the CASTELO DE s. JORGE. Morning leave for trips to the suburbs: were in Sintra, Kajkajshe. Not swam in the Atlantic Ocean. People sunbathing on the beach, some went into the water. Santa Justa elevator climbed. Were in the Parque das Nações in Lisbon-Parque das Nações (Expo 98 took place). Watched fish in the Oceanário de Lisboa. and Zoo-Jardim Zoológico de Lisboa. Oh and how without sardines! :) A lot of them in O Mundo Fantástico da Sardinha Portuguesa. Thanks, Lisbon! April 2017.

  • this is a cool neighborhood to hike around. look for the various tile facades on the older buildings. then settle back for a coffee at the "sol" viewpoint and take in that great scene.  more »
