25 de Abril Bridge, Lisbon

(4.4/5 based on 1,700+ reviews on the web)
Longer than the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and quite similar to it in appearance, 25 de Abril Bridge connects Lisbon to Almada and services around 380,000 people daily. With a length of 2,277 m (7,470 ft), it's one of the longest suspension bridges in Europe. Because of heavy seismic activity in the region, it was built using the deepest foundation in the world, which reaches 80 m (262 ft) down into the riverbed. This massive red bridge can be a majestic addition to your holiday photo archive, or a picturesque backdrop for a picnic. You can cross it by car or by train. • Look at it from the point of view of Armada: take the boat from Lisbon (2.5 euros) and go up to Christ the saviour for a wonderful view on the bridge and the river Tagus. Really impressive, we can spend not far from an hour to admire.

  • A great glance both day and night all lit up. You can enjoy more watching him from above the city.

  • A real architectural Marvel. Impressive, how early on the side of Lisbon the ramp to the bridge starts. Who travels with the tram to Belém, drives under extremely high stilts the bridge, in the area of Alcantara, the bridge dominates everything. We went over the bridge with the commuter train "Fertagus". This goes from the train station, Campolide, on the ramp to the bridge, and then below the car gently and evenly across the river Tagus glide. On the other hand, the railway in a tunnel ends, the cars drive immediately to the toll. The bridge is still unilaterally tolls!

  • It reminded me of the Golden Gate in a smaller version. The good thing about this one; I didn't see any fog.
  • The golden gate bridge of Portugal. Well, it's more like the bay bridge painted with the colors of the golden gate bridge. Anyway, there is an nice view of the brisge 10 mins from the belem train station.
  • Essential for my daily life. Too much traffic trying to use, a 3rd alternative should now be started.
  • A copy of the golden gate in the states, but still it remains an amazing structure. To see it better you have to cross it to Almada
  • This is often compared to San Fransisco's Golden Gate Bridge due to it's look and it's the connection between Lisbon and Almada. This has two decks and 6 lanes for the cara in the top deck and 2 rail tracks in the lower deck. Looks awsome in the day and night both and you would like to click pictures with the landscape of Lisbon or Almada.
