25 de Abril Bridge, Lisbon
Categories: Bridges, Tourist Spots
Longer than the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco and quite similar to it in appearance, 25 de Abril Bridge connects Lisbon to Almada and services around 380,000 people daily. With a length of 2,277 m (7,470 ft), it's one of the longest suspension bridges in Europe. Because of heavy seismic activity in the region, it was built using the deepest foundation in the world, which reaches 80 m (262 ft) down into the riverbed. This massive red bridge can be a majestic addition to your holiday photo archive, or a picturesque backdrop for a picnic. You can cross it by car or by train. Wanneer je wandelt aan de Taag zie je die grote brug, je kan er over wandelen is ons gezegd, maar wij vonden ze toch wat te ver.Je kan ook naar de overkant met een overzetbootje. When you walk to the Tagus River you see those big Bridge, which is about walking is told us, but we found them a bit too far. You can also transfer to the other side with a boat.show original

Fiquei impressionada com a beleza dessa ponte. Achei muito parecida com a de São Francisco (EUA). Achei sensacional!I was impressed with the beauty of this bridge. I found it very similar to San Francisco (USA). I thought it was sensational!show original
25 de Abril Bridge. Often compared to San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge due to its colour and as a suspension bridge too, the bridge has 2 decks, with the upper deck having six car lanes and the lower deck having two rail tracks. Connecting Lisboa with Almada across the Tejo River, the name "25 de Abril" commemorates the Carnation Revolution, a military coupe that happened on 25 April 1974 which overthrew the regime of the Estado Novo.

A suspension bridge connects Lisbon with Almada, the best view of this bridge is from Santuário Nacional de Cristo Rei, Almada.
Beautiful bridge. You can spend hours on the bank near it. Its very relaxing even with the him of traffic above
Fantastic bridge which is visible from all high ground in Lisbon. With its red colour it looks similar to the bridge in San Francisco. Great to cross over the river and view from the other side with a beer in hand.
Stunning feat of engineering-more recently a trainline has been affixed to its under carraige-it catches the eye and sweeps your attention to the hard to miss statue of Christ at the end of it.Apparently sunrise is THE time to view it.
